Dive
Chairman Comments: Sea Lancers is known for being a family club
and for its safety record. Part of being safe is diving with a
buddy. Sea Lancers policy is that during CLUB DIVES all members
will dive with a buddy. I ask that all members that show up to
a club dive; please dive with a buddy. Success of club dives depend
on the boat owners who volunteer their time and boat to support
the club event. However, some circumstances are unavoidable (Mechanical
failure, illness, military recalls, etc.) and it may result in
less than predicted boats, resulting in longer shore waits. My
promise to you, as divers of the club, is to get everyone out for
their dives but I do ask for your understanding and patience when
numerous boats are not available.

11 January 2003 - Club dive from Ala Wai Harbor.
34 divers and 5 boat owners turned out for the first dive of the
New Year. We had the pleasure of having Steve Elfers and Phillip
Thompson, both from the AF Times, dive with us. The pictures are
featured on the Webpage and will appear in the March edition of
the AF Times. The dive ended at approximately 1600. All divers
completed their dives safely. No injuries reported during the event.
26 January 2003 - Club Dive was cancelled due
to no boats available.

September 2002 - Night dive from Haleiwa boat harbor. We had
27 divers and 5 boats. Boat Owners were: Glenn Powell, Doug Sobin,
Tim Imwould, Bill Pigott, and Dennis Reed. The first boat went out
at 1839L
and the last boat docked at 2149L. First night of lobster season proved
eventful for the Sea Lancer group. Half of the 27 divers left after
their first dive because of one reason or another (but were happy with
the
dive), so Doug Sobin and Bill Piggott pulled their boats. The second
dive was in full darkness and Tim Imwould‚s boat had two sharks
show up during their dives. The big event of the second dive was when
Dennis Reed radioed in that box jellyfish had stung three of his divers.
I prepared the first aid kit for the divers as they docked. The worst
sting was on Beth Meyers as she had three separate sting areas on her
body; both left and right biceps and lower left leg around her ankle.
First aid consisted of Vinegar to the stung areas and burn spray to relief
the pain for all the divers. I asked the injured divers to phone me in
the morning with their conditions .On Monday A.M. Dave Meyers, spouse
of Beth Meyers, phoned me and said that she was doing fine and that she
still had some pain in the areas that she was stung. Injuries: Box jellyfish
stung 3 divers. They were :Beth Meyers, Stacy Schonefield and Kevin O‚Brien.
First aid administered to the injured divers.

August 2002 -
TREASURE HUNT at Haleiwa Beach Park.A total of 41 divers and family
members showed up for this event.Glenn Powell, Dick May, and Anton
McPhee used the Sea Turtle to set the flags for the prizes and
establish the boundary for the event. The event started with a
shotgun start at 0905L and all divers were instructed to out of
the water by 1015L.The grand prize was a MARES regulator and the
runner up prize was a MARES BCD. Kathy Fehn won the grand prize
when she picked up her flag on the edge of the drop off. The BCD
Tag was not claimed; therefore the BCD is carried over to the Christmas
party.
No injuries reported during the event.
I would like to thank the following people for their help during the Treasure
Hunt/Summer Picnic: William Parker, Donna Hanson, Jesse Smith, John Allison,
Keith McCauley, Howard Pittman, Jim Hansen, and Dick May. Most importantly the
BOD. You all came together and helped me out from basically scratch. We had some
idea what was planned, but we had to put everything in motion. In my book, it
was a huge success! Thanks again!
